Global markets were rattled on Wednesday as Donald Trump’s path to the U.S. presidency remains in reach of the 270 Electoral College votes needed with less than 10 states yet to officially report.
CNN has yet to call Maine (4), New Hampshire (4), Pennsylvania (20), Michigan (16), Wisconsin (10), Minnesota (10), Nevada (6), or Arizona (11) along with Alaska (3) – with the result of the election in the balance. Only Fox News has called Wisconsin for Trump, which would considerably narrow Clinton’s path to win.
Overall, CNN projects Trump now with 244 Electoral College votes to 215 for Clinton. The New York Time has said that Trump has a 95% chance of winning the needed total of electoral votes with the trends seen in the remaining states.
The bitter race between Clinton, 69 and Trump, 70, has the potential to spill over into control of at least the U.S. Senate and into economic policies on trade and taxes that will affect the global economy.
Projections also showed Republicans holding onto the majority in the U.S. House of representatives. Control of the Senate was leaning heavily to the Republicans to keep.
