Brexit Ministers Abandon the UK Cabinet. Two important pillars of the UK Brexit Ministry have step-down from their position, in retaliation to the UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s plan for Brexit. David Davis and Boris Johnson were two very strong supporters at the time of the Brexit referendum Leave Campaign.
The Reason
Theresa May recently gave a statement that the EU Trade rules shall be followed post-Brexit, which has been the cause for this negative retort. Although May claimed that the decision has been delivered only upon taking the consent of the other cabinet ministers, the reactions that it has entailed doesn’t make it appear like the cabinet ministers were very happy with the decision.
The Prime Minister was taken aback upon hearing the news about the Cabinet Ministers putting down their resignation for the reason that she was always very confident about the level of unity and agreement within the party. However, the current scenario has raised questions on the Prime Minister’s future in the United Kingdom and the Brexit policy fate in future.
The first to give down the resignation was the Brexit Minister David Davis who was followed by Foreign Secretary and Brexit negotiator Boris Johnson.
The Brexit Ministers were not very appreciative of the Prime Minister’s move to unify the trade policies of the United Kingdom and EU because it would take away the control that the Brexit would have given to the UK for all trade practices and related matters.
The Action
The situation seemed so awful that it looked like a mini-war within the UK. The Prime Minister, however, was quick to take action over the crisis and appointed new ministers in order to replace the cabinet ministers who have left the company. Jeremy Hunt has been appointed to replace Boris Johnson, the Foreign Secretary while Dominic Raab was appointed as the Brexit Secretary in place of David Davis.
The Impact
Not only did this move garner attention and witness reactions from the people but it also affected the currency of the United Kingdom. So, the second week of July brought in the highest fall in the value of the Pound against the Dollar on the daily basis. Another major concern is that the exit of these two Eurosceptic Ministers might cost the locals their jobs as well because going on with the regulations of the European Union would give little or no power to Britain to be able to influence the decision-making process of the EU.
What Lies Ahead
For a very long time, The Prime Minister did not talk about the strategy fearing the resistance that it might bring in but finally she gave in. Though the scenario may have initially given a setback to Theresa May, it has not deterred her spirit and she continues to stand firm on her Brexit plan and she is of the strong view that before addressing the opposition that she is facing within her own country, there is a big challenge that the European Union shall face and the Brexit plan requires their acceptance before it is taken any further. She is also reassuring her people that every move that is made shall take into account what the people want and the same shall be delivered to them. So far the other Cabinet Ministers are supporting Theresa May’s Brexit plan and there has been no further news of any Ministers quitting.
The Brussels deal is just another motive of the UK Prime Minister and it is hoped that there will be a positive agreement by October 2018.
