Binance Moves Some Operations To Malta
Binance is moving some functions to one of the world's most beautiful countries.

Following an extensive amount of controversy, the Binance cryptocurrency exchange has announced it will be moving a part of its operations to Malta. The development comes as Binance has been dealing with significant issues in Japan.

The Hong Kong-based exchange removed its staff from its Japanese office. The exchange has been dealing with extensive disputes with Japan as Binance may face some criminal charges in that country and could be shut down. Binance has been operating in Japan without an appropriate license.

The concern surrounding Binance caused the cryptocurrency market to decline. The values of most cryptocurrencies dropped by around 5 percent on average.

Regulators stated that Binance was only going to get a warning about its operations and that it was not going to immediately lose its ability to operate in Japan. However, there had been strong fears that something more substantial would happen based on reports from the Nikkei news reporting group.

Support From Malta

Malta has been rather supportive of the cryptocurrency market in recent time. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat stated that Malta is looking to promote the overall growth of the market and is aiming to get more fintech companies and groups that work with the blockchain into the country.

Zhao Changpeng, the founder of Binance, has also expressed a strong interest in the country with the belief that Malta is willing to help keep the market moving forward. The exchange had Malta on the top of its list of places to consider extending its operations to.

Competition In the Region

Although Malta has received a major boon in getting Binance to operate within the country, it is not the only country in the region to get into the cryptocurrency market in recent time. Estonia has been looking into producing its own national cryptocurrency in recent time. One city in Slovenia also released a major monument to the bitcoin.

Switzerland and other countries around the area have also been experimenting with getting bitcoin payment supported for many payments for city and country expenses among other points.

Concern About Malta

Although Malta has been a popular country for many business operations, particularly for incorporating businesses, there have been worries surrounding Malta being a popular hub for smuggling. The location of Malta in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea has helped to make it a site for many criminal activities.

Ongoing Performance

The events surrounding Binance caused a sizeable drop in the cryptocurrency market, but the market in general has recovered and is moving back forward. The bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies have not experienced any sizeable increases or drops in recent time since the controversy surrounding Binance came about. The Binance Coin, the currency that Binance itself has been producing in recent time, has also experienced a slight increase in its trading volume. It has increased to around $13 as of the end of the week; it had been at around $9 during the start of the week and did not experience the same dramatic decline as other currencies did.
